For the first time in their history, Cricket West Indies have handed out multi-year deals to nine cricketers across the senior men's and women's teams. Apart from those nine players, nine more men and twelve women have been given one year contracts.
CWI awards multi-year contracts to nine players
Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie and Jayden Seales are the six players from the men's list to have been given the two-year deals that run until September 30, 2026. Hayley Matthews, Stafanie Taylor and Shemaine Campbelle are the three women cricketers in that bracket as the CWI in a statement said this has been done on the back of a MoU that was signed in January this year between the board and the players association.
"CWI has committed to maintaining open and honest dialogue with players and being practical about the realities of the modern game," Miles Bascombe, CWI Director of Cricket said. "The players have responded in kind and the acceptance of multi-year contracts is an indication of clarity, confidence, and commitment on both sides. I'd like to congratulate the entire contracted cohort on their performances in the last assessment period and I look forward to them building on those in next one."
Two changes have been made in the Men's section with Kavem Hodge rewarded with a central contract for the first time after impressing in Australia in the famous win at the Gabba and backing it up with a Test century in England. Roston Chase, who had a fantastic year in T20 cricket, is the other entry. CWI also confirmed that Tagenerine Chanderpaul will take up a franchise retainer contract with Guyana Harpy Eagles whereas veteran fast bowler Kemar Roach is in discussions regarding a new deal that will see him perform dual duties as a player and mentor as he edges closer to the end of his career.
